Fogerty Stories

John Fogerty has influenced me in numerous ways. CCR was one of the first bands I listened to when I got into rock as a teenager. It also helped me connect with my dad and uncle as they were fans too.

I dedicated a summer to learning a bunch of Creedence songs on the guitar. I’ve played several songs live like Born in the Bayou and Commotion. John Fogerty was my first concert, a memory which I will always treasure dearly. I hope he returns to Argentina sometime.

My late Mom was a huge CCR fan and played their records a lot while I was growing up in California. When I was around 9 she bought the band’s “Pendulum” album for me because I loved “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” She died in 2009, and I play this song in my car every time I leave the cemetery because it reminds me so much of her. In addition, CCR’s music inspired me to take guitar lessons, and decades later I still play and write songs.

When John Fogerty (and CCR) was playing Woodstock, I was a young kid in East Tennessee. My aunt would let me play records from her personal vinyl collection on her turntable/stereo. CCR and Carole King were my go-tos. CCR disbanded before I was old enough to see them in concert. I have followed John’s story over the decades and read pretty much everything written about him. (Loved “Forturnate Son” and was smart enough to snag a signed copy off of eBay a while back. Winning!)

Due to seasons of life and career/family responsibilities, I was unable to attend any of the concerts when John started performing again – UNTIL…last winter (Feb/2024) when he performed in Coconut Creek, FL. I drove four hours to see him perform. I had waited almost FIVE decades to see him perform in concert, and when it started pouring rain I knew the possibility of a show cancelation was high! The show did get canceled, BUT John and his band were willing to stay an extra day. Proof again that John Fogerty also puts his audience first. They performed brilliantly. After waiting years and years, I soaked up every note from the fifth row. (Five decades/fifth row.)

It brings my heart joy to see him receiving well deserved recognition! He is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songwriters of my time. And I can proudly say that he is also my three-year-old grandson’s go-to when requesting music to play along with on his electric (plastic) guitar. ♡ His personal favorite being Run Through the Jungle.

Thank you, Mr. Fogerty for being an integral part of my life. Your music has been a staple for so many over the years. I wish you and your family all the best. May your journeys be safe and your strings never break.

Be well!

John Fogerty and his music connect 4 generations in our family. We went to the Simpsonville SC show, and my 11 year old granddaughter was belting the songs out, as much as her 78 year old great grandmother, 56 year old grandmother, and 32 year old father. She

learned the song Fortunate Son in school learning about the war. Our family had an amazing time at your concert.

My son was raised on John’s music, now my granddaughter is equally as blessed.

I’m an aspiring lyricist and John Fogerty has had a magical impact on my songwriting journey. A couple months ago I was working out listening to John Fogerty Essentials on Apple Music. After my workout, I was compelled to research more about John. For the next hour, I read about his past, taking note of his continued work ethic and drive to create music throughout the decades and the support of his wife. I had to stop researching and pick my daughter up from preschool and turned the car radio on. A song was playing that I had never heard before…the following lyrics were compelling and the voice sounded familiar:

Put me in, coach

I’m ready to play today

Look at me, I can be centerfield

After the song ended, I heard the DJ state: And that was “Centerfield” by John Fogerty. That magical moment really impacted me and motivated me to keep writing lyrics despite my own setbacks. It might be far-fetched, by I think it was the universe telling me to stay focused on my dreams. Thank you John for being a positive role model for me and for playing a role in that magical experience.

My very first concert was CCR, Tony Joe White and Tower Of Power indoors at the Oakland Coliseum in California in 1972. Tom Forgery had left the group and “Sweet Hitchhiker” was climbing the charts. I was a big fan of the “swamp music” just having listened to the songs on the radio and records, but seeing CCR live made me a fan for life. I play acoustic guitar and sing and John Fogerty songs are a big part of my music. Thank you John for all of the music you have provided us with, and continue to provide for us. Congratulations on securing the rights to the music you wrote.

I discovered John and CCR in 1998 while driving my mom’s Jeep Wrangler. I found her “best of” CD and spent the entire summer driving around and listening to the hits. I was fixated on his music and it grew into a lifelong love that exists today more than ever. I picked up the guitar at the age of 30 with the intentions to only learn CCR. That hobby turned into a profession and I’m now 41 and play live and have since recorded songs that pay homage to John and CCR, including “Freedom Was Us” and “Overdrink About It”. Without John, my love for music and my ability to play it wouldn’t exist!

I was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years and used your music to liven up my attitude while making lesson plans and fixing up the classroom. Your passionate energy really got me going. It still does and I’m 83.

So, CCR broke up the year I was born, but somehow became part of the soundtrack of my life. Over the years,, I’ve collected thier whole discography and really studied thier music. I became a touring, performing musician myself. Even though CCR has no influence on my chosen genre, in a way, they’re still an influence on me. I can’t put my finger on it, but I know they have. Thank you John and CCR for being part of the soundtrack of my life!
