Win a copy: The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again - John Fogerty
Album review - 11/14/09
(Verve Forecast/UMTV) As the mainman in one of America?s greatest rock bands Creedence Clearwater Revival John Fogerty is guaranteed a place in popular music?s hall of fame.
His new solo album sees him picking up a theme from more than 30 years ago.Back in 1972, after he broke up CCR, Fogerty released his first solo album under the name of The Blue Ridge Raiders. Then as now, the songs on the album were mostly cover
versions of his favourite songs.
Fogerty explained: "The songs on The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again are mostly songs I have carried with me for a lifetime.
"They are songs that influenced me and helped form who I am as a musician and certainly as a songwriter. There is something very American about all these songs and the original arrangements."
The album, which was arranged and produced by Fogerty, is full of classy country rock played immaculately by an all-star backing band and with guest spots from fellow superstars.
Don Henley and Timothy B Schmit, from The Eagles, help out on the Ricky Nelson song Garden Party.
And on the rousing version of the Everly Brothers favourite When Will I Be Loved, Fogerty fan Bruce Springsteen contributes vocals.
Among the other classic covers are John Prine?s Paradise, John Denver's Back Home Again and Never Ending Song Of Love, which was penned by Delaney and Bonnie.
As ever with Fogerty, quality and enjoyment is guaranteed.
