My mom was over for dinner the other night and I started talking about growing up and living in San Diego. One of my chores was raking the leaves on the side of the house--which I hated--and did everything possible to avoid. I had this old, portable Magnovox record player and when "Up Around the Bend" came out, I would take the record player out and rake the leaves as I listened to UATB. My mom asked me what I would have said if someone told me that at the age of 54 I would be anxiously awaiting JCF's new album. It has certainly been an amazing run of great music for the past 40 years or so. I teach 6th grade reading in Arkansas and my students give me a hard time about my musical tastes, and at least two or three days a week, I have UATB blasting as students walk into my class in the morning. As they roll their eyes and laugh at my musical tastes, I tell them, "You should be so lucky as to have a musical idol that has meant as much to me as John Fogerty has."
