Happy Birthday Bayou Country

Bayou Country was released on this day 44 years ago. I remember getting the album and bringing it home and playing it over and over and over. My mom was not a fan of rock and roll, and especially disliked Creedence (my dad called them, Clarence Swampwater). Even though I was ten at the time, I will never forget my mom popping her head in my bedroom and saying something to the effect of, "I finally have heard a group I hate more than that Creedence group, who is this new group?" When I told it was Creedence, she just laughed and left the room. As a funny side note, she eventually became a lover of rock. Between me playing Creedence and Led Zepplin (she is a huge fan of Robert Plant) and my brother playing the Beatles and Queen, she was finally won over. She has been to two John Fogerty concerts with my wife and me, and she proudly tells friends and family members that she has Creedence, John Fogerty, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zepplin on her CD player at home. Not bad for an 86 year old great, great grandmother. Now, if I could just convince to crank the volume up to ten.
"If it's too loud, you're too old."

Just the other day I went to visit my Mom she is 92. We were sitting around the table then she started humming Bad Moon Rising. I said alright Mom John Fogerty she just smiled and kept humming the tune. My Mother is a great piano player I wish I had half her talent. Then we played Scrabble and my Mom kicked my butt, she is so smart at 92.

My grandmother is now aged 104 and lives in a nursing home. She still has all of her faculties, just a little hard of hearing.
She has always loved listening to the radio and the music played everyday.
Over the past month on each of my visits to see her, Gran has mentioned she loves a song she's heard which has a "bullfrog" in it.
I said that would be a song called "Green River" by the band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Gran replied, "Oh yes, that 'bullfrog' song is so catchy, and it makes me want to get up and dance and sing with sheer happiness, and I just can't get it out of my mind."
A little concerned about Granny, I said not to go dancin' barefoot at your age, especially in the dark with only moonlight in your room as you might slip and fracture a hip, or worse. It went straight over her head - and luckily not one or both of her legs - re my reference to "Green River" and CCR.
Just last Saturday, I saw Gran and we were happily chatting away over coffee and biscuits with the radio on, when she exclaimed "Yeah, that's my song playing right now, singalong with me if you know the words .... 'Jeremiah was a bullfrog, Was a good friend of mine' ...."
Somewhat taken aback, I told her I was sorry about the confusion as this particular song that mentioned a "bullfrog" was called "Joy to the World" by a different band Three Dog Night.
Gran nicely said, "Oh, but I'm sure that the other band Cletus Cleanwater Revinyl is okay too."
    God bless her.
