How does John get that signature sound?

Okay, I've heard all kinds of things. Gibson says John gets his sound from the guitar itself. Not so, he started with Rickenbacker, and even gets that sound from the baseball bat guitar. Some say it's the tuning, that's not it either, though I'm sure that helps. One time on Letterman, though John played his Gibson, for whatever reason, the signature sound wasn't there on one of the CCR standards. Why? I don't know. How does he get that signature sound from any guitar? Pedal box? Amp? a little of both?

That unic CCR sound comes from playing a D-tuned Gibson Les Paul through a Kustom K200 or a Fender Twin Amp with a Tremolo effect. That´s my opinion if you want to come very near to those CCR Classics.
