Outtakes Album

I'd love to see John release an outtakes album spanning his solo career. So far we only know of songs like the 3 "Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again" outtakes (inc. the Merle Haggard cover), "Longshot" from the Deja Vu studio sessions, "No Love in You" studio version from the Eye of the Zombie sessions, and the Hoodoo songs, but I'm sure John has a lot of other material in the vault. From 1976-1996 he probably recorded tons of songs that ended up nowhere. Maybe some other rarities like "I Found a Love" or "Endless Sleep,"-- stuff that's hard to get ahold of-- could be on there, along with outtakes from the 1985 All-Star special, like "Honky Tonk Women" and "My Girl." Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and others classic rockers have all done this... it's a great way to satisfy the diehards while still reaching a new audience. Maybe it could be a fan club-exclusive thing, or online only release/EP? I know we fans would love a new, original album more than anything, but if the writing process is slow and a new original album isn't possible I'd much prefer an Outtakes Record to any type of covers album.

Any thoughts?

John has repeatedly stated that he destroys all unreleased material, as he feels that it's not good enough to be released anyway. He even confirmed that he personally cut the Hoodoo master tapes to pieces... so I really wonder if there's any unreleased stuff at all. Too bad really, because with all the stuff he has recorded and not released through the years, he could put together a really nice career spanning box set.

Oh, Endless Sleep was actually released on a re-release cd of BMS, so at least that one should be easy to find...

He also said they destroyed CCR stuff yet it still leaks out from the vault so there is material out there.

The CCR stuff that has leaked has just been alternate versions and live stuff, no completely unreleased songs. John destroyed all those too. It's terrible that he does that, as it makes a release like Springsteen's "Tracks" impossible to ever happen, but it's just how he is.

Gosh, that's sad if all Fogerty's unreleased music was destroyed. I keep a-hopin' that it ain't true; that some good soul stashed a copy of all of his music and has it stored and hidden away someplace/somewhere and will break it out to share with us die-hard Fogerty fans someday soon.
