AMSTERDAM SHOW
In the brand new Ziggo dome we had tonight's show
very energetic and special show
the venue is very suited for music-shows
so it's got thumbs up
John was in very good spirits
and he was completely dedicated to make the show as good as ever
dispite of throat problems
he received a big applause from the public because they appriciated it
a lot of friends were here this evening
so it was a fantastic get-together
it was also the only non-festival show in an inside venue
this made the sound more perfect (maybe a little loud)
now a quick sleep and over to London tomorrow

Re: AMSTERDAM SHOW
Just got back in Liverpool having been in Amsterdam last night.
Really enjoyed show and thought set list was one of the best I had heard.
Agree with Arnold that acoustics/noise could of been better but a good venue and certainly better than the Heineken around the corner but some say that has a better sound.
On the issue of Johns throat problem, it certainly didnt show throughout until Fortunate Son when he took a few seconds out, had a drink and sounded as good as ever and professionally dealt with the situation without a lot of people noticing and the group carrying on playing.
Hope he is fine for Hyde Park today and look forward to hearing the reviews.
Keep on rockin, John -
Re: AMSTERDAM SHOW
It was a great show! Sadly the acoustics of the Ziggo Dome were not that great and the sound was very loud, but it did not bother me as much as it bothered some people apparently. I hadn't seen John in four years so I was pretty exited, me and my father had seats in the 102 area and had a very good view on the stage.
Some highlights for me were Lodi, I love those new instrumental breaks courtesy of Randy Kohrs
, Who'll Stop The Rain featured some great organ work from Bob Malone, Ramble Tamble of course sounded as awesome as ever and I noticed that Bob Malone played this little piano motive that almost sounded like a ticking clock which added a lot of suspense during the long bridge, I find it impressive that he was able to keep that up even during the speed up part, great work! Oh and Shane broke a string during this song forcing him to play John's red Music Man for the next two songs while the stage crew replaced the string.
John's throat problems quickly became evident and I must say I was a little concerned when they started Born On They Bayou, I was afraid that it would be too much for John's voice, but he pulled it off just fine. Then came Hot Rod Heart and Blue Moon Nights, which were two songs I hadn't heard live yet and they sounded great, Hot Rod Heart featured a longer solo. Then came a pleasant surprise, John was given his Music Man Axis guitar and I wondered which song they were going to play and I decided it was too early for Keep On Chooglin', but they launched into.... SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!! Ooh I love that one especially live, I was thrown off by the guitar, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he ever uses that guitar for that song.
Long As I Can See the Light also sounded great, I find it very brave of John to sing that one with a sore throat! I Heard It Through The Grapevine featured a great guitar solo form John and a wicked piano solo from Bob Malone. Then came Gunslinger which is one of my all time favourites from my very favourite album Revival!! And it featured some additional backing vocals which really help to finish the song. The intro to Keep On Chooglin' has almost become an act by itself and it was once again extended, I believe John also did a tapping solo during the middle part, great guitar work! For the more well known songs that followed had the crowd singing along very loud I could easily hear it even though the concert was so loud! The Old Man Down The Road also featured a guitar solo from Shane, unfortunately I could not hear him play the first few bars, but that was quickly fixed.
John had some trouble with his throat during Fortunate Son, no sound would come out, but he took some water while the band continued playing and then they restarted the song and everything went fine. And Rockin' All Over The World and Proud Mary are always a great way to close the show.
This review ended up a lot longer than intended, but I had a great evening. Great show! -
Re: AMSTERDAM SHOW
I haven't posted anything yet about Amsterdam, but it was an absolutely great show!
I didn't like the new Ziggo Dome venue as much as i thought, but it sounded pretty good, and it seemed to have been nearly filled up with people aswell!
He played Long As I Can See The Light again and sounded great despite voice issues.
I remember trying to get his attention several times and finally when he saw us he came over to the side of the stage and said "Hi Jeff!" and then went on to list everyone's names that were standing beside me, Micio, Anne, Robert, Petra, Arnold "FROM BELGIUM" :)
