Opinions about the CCR Trio LIVE ?
What do you think about them live ? You can listen to them e.g. on "Live In Europe".
I think they where great !!
Specially "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" (my very fav. Song), "Travelin' Band" and "Green River with Suzie Q " inbetween and "Hey Tonight" and "Up Around The Bend" and "Fortunate Son" rocked very very much.
So, what do you think ?

Re: Opinions about the CCR Trio LIVE ?
hi ccr fan
When tom fogerty left the band he took that special sound with him....however i think there is a certain fascination about creedence as a trio..i like the "live" stuff , i would like fantasy to release more from this period, we all know there is plenty in the vaults.

Re: Opinions about the CCR Trio LIVE ?
Yes you are right, its normal because they hadnt anymore that guitarist that could play those special rythms like in born on the bayou or so, but live the live trio as much as the quartett, though in studio it was of course not the same. if they would have released all the songs on mardi gras as solo artist, would have been better for them, because all songs on there are awesome (but thats only my opinion), and because its not a CCR album anymore, only a collection of musicians backing up each other and of musicians that arent really friends anymore.

Re: Opinions about the CCR Trio LIVE ?
I agree but also disagree with the comment Green / Eyed CCR Fan made. Because Tom left the band didn't make them less of a band, ok technically they were but that's besides thew point. Johns guitar playing is superior and because of that they did well as a trio. Yes Mardi Gras to some wasn't a good album but ask a true Creedence fan and see the answers you get. I for one thought it was an ok album. Their best work? no, but none the less an ok album. The songs were different and they all sang for the first time, that was the difference. Stu and Doug proved their singing ability, my hat goes off to them for doing that. John wasn't happy but oh well. John finally caved and let Stu and Doug sing and the album was a flop. So what would have happened if he allowed them to sing on a previous album? Think about that. Be well, Mike

hi mike
I am a true creedence fan and apart from the magnificent "someday never comes " and the rockin "sweet hitch -hiker mardi gras is a poor album, the vibe wasn`t good between the members of ccr at the time ......Its a shame............ but i like the !live! stuff its raw.

Mhh as i said i love the music the trio made too, but i think when tom went away, it made them lesser a band, John wanted to quit, and only continue if the others would write. So maybe the year 1971 was still a fun year, but the last tour (which was also very great) was not so fun anymore - i mean the time when also Doug sang a song then.
But musically - Perfect.
And yes, everytime i listen to "Live In Europe" (my fav. live album together with "One For The Road" by the kinks) i think....how can John Fogerty play so great the guitar ???
I hope it does't "hurt" anybody here, but i think Tom is not missing on that "Live In Europe" album.
It is awesome as it is (same to the other Trio recordings that are available..)
A difference would it be on "The Concert", because thats a different genre of music they played.
And so that's the point, when Tom went away, songs like "Tombstone Shadow", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "Night Time Is The Right Time", weren't playable anymore (ok, they where, but without rythm ?? the groove would be away).
They had to found their musical style new.
Easy to hear on Lodi, which is very different from live versions played by Tom.
A trick by John was it also that he configured his guitar very special, he used a special effect, that made his guitar sounding like on "Live in Europe" and to replace Tom.
Sometimes i think it would have been better when Tom would have stayed with them, BUT:
then we wouldnt have his great solo albums, and maybe of the others either not, AND CCR wouldnt have changed their live style to sound like on "Live In Europe"...which is very hard rocking and awesome. So we have more diferent genres of CCR we can enjoy (and i dont know how many times i listened to "Live in europe" already haha)

Creedence aint the same without tom fogerty, he and the other three members made that special sound .....when he left he took that sound with him, i like the rawness of the trio ccr but give me john ,tom, doug and stu anytime.!!!!

Re: Opinions about the CCR Trio LIVE ?
i know, its right, Tom took the first CCR sound "with him", and then they made a new one which is also so unique like the other one because NO OTHER BAND can/could sound like the CCR Trio either.
